Our Eagle Scout (Future Eagles)

I was playing around with some pictures and superimposed 2 pictures and this was a complete surprise. A great surprise though. These are the oldest boys in the troop. 1 is already an Eagle Scout. The other 2 I am now convinced will also be. Call it divine intervention I guess. The eagle is directly over our first eagle scout Sean and surrounded by our next 2. Now this is divine. We are so very proud of our boys, I think they have no idea ,even though we tell them often enough how much pride they bring to our lives. Thanks Sean, Mat and all our boys of Troop 51. We applaud you for sticking it out and for being such great kids in these times where it is hard just to be a kid.

Our Very Shy Senior Patrol Leader

He's not always this shy believe me. Ask the boys. He leads well though.

The Great Debate

Apparently this was a very serious discussion about our community. Everyone was getting into it. Either that or someone was in trouble. OOPS...that was me. Creating a blog and quiet scout meetings just don't mix..... I forgot to press mute I guess...OOPS again.

Scoutmaster Steve Our Fearless Leader

Letter From Camp

Came across this on the internet. How cute. I kinda changed the names from the original . Don't worry we have had some occurences but none like this.

Letter from Camp:

Dear Mom,

Our scout master Steve told us all to write to our parents in case you saw the flood on TV and worried. We are OK. Only 1 of our tents and 2 sleeping bags got washed away. Luckily, none of us got drowned because we were all up on the mountain looking for Robert when it happened. Oh yes, please call Robert's mother and tell her he is OK. He can't write because of the cast. I got to ride in one of the search & rescue jeeps. It was neat. We never would have found him in the dark if it hadn't been for the lightning. Scoutmaster Steve got mad at Robert for going on a hike alone without telling anyone. Robert said he did tell him, but it was during the fire so he probably didn't hear him.

Did you know that if you put gas on a fire, the gas can will blow up? The wet wood still didn't burn, but one of our tents did. Also some of our clothes. Mat is going to look weird until his hair grows back.

We will be home on Saturday if Scoutmaster Steve gets the car fixed. It wasn't his fault about the wreck. The brakes worked OK when we left. Scoutmaster Steve said that a car that old you have to expect something to break down; that's probably why he can't get insurance on it. We think it's a neat car. He doesn't care if we get it dirty, and if it's hot, sometimes he lets us ride on the tailgate. It gets pretty hot with 10 people in a car. He let us take turns riding in the trailer until the highway patrolman stopped and talked to us.

Scoutmaster Steve is a neat guy. Don't worry, he is a good driver. In fact, he is teaching Tim how to drive. But he only lets him drive on the mountain roads where there isn't any traffic. All we ever see up there are logging trucks.

This morning all of the guys were diving off the rocks and swimming out in the lake. Scoutmaster Steve wouldn't let me because I can't swim and Robert was afraid he would sink because of his cast, so he let us take the canoe across the lake. It was great. You can still see some of the trees under the water from the flood. Scoutmaster Steve isn't crabby like some scoutmasters. He didn't even get mad about the life jackets. He has to spend a lot of time working on the car so we are trying not to cause him any trouble.

Guess what? We have all passed our first aid merit badges. When Tim dove in the lake and cut his arm, we got to see how a tourniquet works. Also Sean and I threw up. Scoutmaster Steve said it probably was just food poisoning from the leftover chicken, he said they got sick that way with the food they ate in prison. I'm so glad he got out and become our scoutmaster. He said he sure figured out how to get things done better while he was doing his time.

I have to go now. We are going into town to mail our letters and buy bullets. Don't worry about anything. We are fine.

Love, Drew

The Last Lecture

If you have not viewed this lecture you are really missing a very inspirational story. Randy Pausch gives one of the greatest lectures of all time. Actually meant for his children but presented as a lecture at Carnegie Mellon University to his students and fellow colleagues. This truly was Randy's last lecture. Randy lost his battle to cancer shortly after this lecture was created. All scouts would truly benefit from the watching of this video. Randy was a great professor and a great human being and will be sadly missed by all.

You Have The Power

You have the power!
We all have incredible power but often don’t realize it. I am talking about our SMILE power. Want to see if you have it? Next time you meet someone with a crabby face, smile and watch how he changes. Or when you’re in an elevator with people you don’t know, smile, say something friendly, and watch everyone’s mood lighten up. But why should we use this special gift? Well, that one is easy. It’s our responsibility to make other people feel good if we can. And smiling is one of the best ways to do so.

You can never give away a smile
- it always comes back.
- Anonymous

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.
- Phyllis Diller

Bruno’s commentary
People have been talking about Mona Lisa’s smile for 500 years! If you want another proof of smile power, watch how a telephone conversation brightens up when you smile as you talk, even though your conversation partner can’t see you. Your smile alters your voice and sends out healthy energy and suddenly everything becomes positive. Need another proof? Smile at a child; you will get one back, immediately! And best of all: It’s impossible to become angry when you smile!

Are you smiling right now?

Its Time For Camp Chickasaw

Yes its time once again for the 2009 Camp Chickasaw Season to start. This has become a favorite place with our troop. We love going there but are not always happy to leave. We will really miss our old friend Mr. Marquardt this year. It will never be quite the same without him. We are left in very great hands though with our Eagle Scout Tyson who we have become equally as fond of. We are really looking forward to another great camping season. This is a Scout and Scoutmasters dream. Beautiful acres of land, hiking as well as camping spots. It is close to fishing, church and nature. It costs you an hour of camp service. Of course any donation I'm sure would be greatly appreciated and well deserved. Tyson is an awesome camp host and has become someone we like to call friend. So here is a link go ahead and check it out. Make some reservations and I'm sure you will visit for years to come with your scout troop.
